I'm very surprised that a link to this post is on here. I am in objection to the article.

I don't know if it's appropriate to say this, but I'm also in a small bit of shock that you would post this considereding some of the information you've shared with me this semester about your family.

Regardless, I understand that this link is to a Catholic Organization, so obviously their beliefs are their main support behind their arguement. I do however believe that it's narrow minded.

I am one of those people they're speaking of when they're talking about humanity "adjust[ing] their moral compass." I believe that there are two main functions of religion. One is family/security. I use a forward-slash because some people don't have a family, but they find security in religion, and othertimes, familes go to religion for a sense of security or protection from the things that they cannot control. The other main function of religion is just to more clearly define what is right and what is wrong. Obviously living by a higher standard of what is right will provide you with a chance to get into Heaven, or be reincarnated to something better, or whatever your religion defines as the next step in life after death.

Now, taking those two funtions into consideration, let's start with the first one. Family/Security; speaking specifically about Gay Rights. I can hardly believe that they're even defined that way. I believe what they really are, are Human Rights. Regardless of who they decide to sleep with, they are still Human. Consider two women who raise a child. Consider two men who raise a child. Consider one woman and one man raising a child. Do you know what all of those things have in common? That they're raising the child with love. The child will grow up being supported by two people who love them. Does it go against "nature"? In some very straight-forward ways, yes. People are not able to reproduce that way. But they still are capable of having relationships, and still are capable of raising families. There are plenty of children up for adoption. Give them to a family that can love them. That's the important part.

And now looking at the other function. To more clearly define what is good and bad. The same arguement comes up in this situation that everyone's already heard, but it's a valid arguement, so I'm going to mention it again. Racism was considered to be outragous when it was first introduced into the American civilization. Blacks and whites congregating together? No way! They're not good enough! They're not even human! I believe the law was that each black was 3/5 of a white man. & You know what we did? We fought for equality. For HUMAN rights, regardless of the color of their skin. Looking back at it now, people have a hard time seeing what the problem was, because we're now raised differently. & That's the same delimma we're running into now. The generation that is so stubbornly arguing that this is unjust-giving the same rights to gays and straight families-but that's because of the way they were raised. Two, three, even four generations have been born since then. Times are changing. People are becoming more accepting. It's no more my right to tell you to change than it is for you to tell me to change. I'm just saying that I've accepted what you believe and I'll let you live your life according to your own standards. Please do the same for me and the rest of the generations. Let us decide what is best for us. History is on our side this time.
