ARE YOU A CONFIDENT ACHIEVEMENT LADDER ENTHUSIAST?

What characteristics enhance the confidence of an Achievement Ladder Enthusiast? In paraphrasing the thoughts of a well-known author, Carol C. Kanar, from her book, The Confident Student, she indicates traits of confident students and offers descriptions of those traits. Here is a listing that parallels these traits:

1) To be open, to be adaptable to change, and to be eager to discover new choices, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be flexible.

2) To know what you want and to strive to accomplish and achieve your goals, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be self-motivated.

3) To have a positive attitude, to be optimistic, to be hopeful, to be energetic, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be enthusiastic...I am sold myself!

4) To own your actions, to accept consequences, to avoid making excuses, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be responsible.

5) To have self-discipline, to give priority to tasks and obligations, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be self-managed.

6) To think for yourself, to use effective strategies, to meet challenges in all dimensions, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be an independent thinker.

7) To control your impulses, to avoid having your feelings control you, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be holistically intelligent.

8) To know where, when, how, and what to study, to use a creative study system,
an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be holistically studious.

9) To pledge your time and effort to succeed, to will what is necessary to enhance your performance, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be committed.

10) To use learning strategies and memory techniques, to keep your mind active and focused, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be an active learner.

11) To never give up, to remain focused on your goals in spite of setbacks, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be persistent.

12) To have the stamina to face challenges and to take intellectual risks, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be assertive.

13) To know your strengths and weaknesses, to work hard to develop new skills,
an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be skilled and skillful from all learning experiences, past, present, and future.

14) To set goals, to make plans for achieving goals, to follow through on your plans, an achievement ladder enthusiast needs to be future oriented. Looking back gives us wisdom and understanding to move ahead in the now and to effectively prepare for the future and its challenges.
